Well, the holiday season is officially in full swing! I’m beginning to anticipate all of the treat making that has to occur over the next few weeks. I’m sure I am not the only one: the holidays are a time when I exchange a good deal of homemade sweets. It can be a daunting process if left to the last minute. And let’s be honest: as much as I try to prepare in advance, there is always something that has to be made at the last second for some reason or another.
That’s why I like to have a few delicious and easy to make sweet treats in my back pocket for just an occasion. Or…for when I completely botch a batch of something else I was spending a long time preparing. Yeah…that’s happened too. Having an alternate plan on the back burner is pretty much necessary in my house.
I love this chocolate covered “party popcorn” for those instances. Heck, I just like this treat in general and whip up a batch pretty regularly. When you use the white chocolate melting bark to cover the popcorn, you can add food coloring to suit the holiday/event/etc. Red and green might be great for Christmas…or a nice light blue paired with white/silver/blue sprinkles. The combination is really up to you depending on the occasion, and you could even use multiple colors for extra fun! I have also added mini M&Ms in the past for some extra chocolate goodness…the combination is truly a mix and match situation!
Do you have any quick sweet treat recipes always on hand?
So, it’s the day before Thanksgiving. I don’t know about you, but typically for my household, that means tonight is an occasion to go out to dinner. There’s no sense in cooking a time consuming supper the night before one of the biggest meals of the year!
Anyway…date night it is! And I have a good reason to head out for date night: the ladies of ProjectFAB were tasked with putting together a date night outfit. Now, as much as I’d like to don a fancy dress for the occasion, it just isn’t practical in Florida (where people show up in shorts and tee shirts to fancy restaurants). This black tunic dress definitely was perfect for the occasion though! I am definitely a fan of simple pieces like this; you can dress them up or down. I know I will pair it with flats on a different day and time…it is certainly a classic “Katie” dress.
Are you prepared for this week’s holiday? I have to admit: Thanksgiving kind of snuck up on me, but I’m quite ready to spend some time relaxing and spending quality time with family.
One essential component of Thanksgiving at our house happens to be the wine. Selecting the perfect bottle (or bottles) to complement the meal is essential.
I recently had the pleasure of sampling Dead Bolt Winemaker’s Blend and found it quite pleasant! This California red wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Petit Syrah, and Shiraz. The exact percentages of each are under lock and key though…or behind the “dead bolt,” if you will!
There are some snacks and sweet treats that are just ridiculously addictive. For me, puppy chow (aka muddy buddies) is one of those delights. There is something SO AMAZING about the crunch of the cereal, paired with the chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar. Drool.
Now, puppy chow is traditionally made with peanut butter and chocolate melted together. And I love that combination, don’t get me wrong. It is glorious in so many ways. But I got to thinking: what about….Nutella??? I mean, why not? I was too tempted to NOT try out a chocolate and Nutella combination with puppy chow. The results? Oh so very good.
