Our Home: Painting the Bedroom
It’s been a while since I gave an update on our house progress. Today, we’re venturing into the bedroom for some much needed paint!
Picking the paint color actually proved to be a more difficult process for me than selecting our living/dining/kitchen color. I knew I wanted to go with a shade of blue: but which shade exactly? I didn’t want baby blue, I didn’t want it to be too dark, and I wanted it to complement our existing bedspread. I started with two samples I thought would be pretty (the top two on the right). Turns out that the swatch on the far right, although pretty, was too much like baby blue (Harbor Haze by Benjamin Moore), and the other (center top) was gorgeous, but we thought would be too dark for the entire room. Never fear: I ended up using that hue in my office and in our master bathroom! I love love love it, just not for our bedroom.
So, I returned to the paint store and found one more swatch (on the bottom)…thinking I’d found a winner. Nope. It turned out to be WAY too light. Dang it. At that point, I was getting quite frustrated. Then, one morning my mom swung by the house with a touch up can of paint. My parents had used Sherwin Williams’ Rainwashed in one of their bathrooms and my mom thought it might be the right hue I was seeking for our bedroom. So, I painted a sample on the wall (the far left), and voila! Paint: decided.
Of course, we started with the edging along the baseboards and ceiling. I wanted to show a picture of this to compare the difference in color between what the homeowners before us had on the walls. In my previous house tour photos, the brown paint looked lighter than it actually was in person, but I think you can see the difference pretty well in this picture. Even with just the edging complete, I was already excited and could see how much more the room opened up.
And with the paint complete? Even better.
Rainwashed is such a pretty and tranquil color for our bedroom, and I definitely recommend it. Funny enough: it’s listed as being in the green family on the Sherwin Williams’ website. There are definitely greenish hues in it, but overall I think it reads as a blue! I think the before and after is like night and day – I’m so pleased with how the room turned out! Now…if I could only figure out how to deal with the corner window…
Have you ever had a hard time deciding on a paint color for a room?

P.S. Your travel bucket list really inspired me to create my own. I linked your post today on my blog… You should check it out!

February 28, 2013 at 8:55 am (111 days ago)LOVE this color…it’s the perfect tranquil shade that a bedroom needs and it matches wonderfully with your bedspread. I love the contrast between the color of the walls and the dark wood of your bed too! So yeah…I love it!;-)

February 28, 2013 at 12:49 pm (110 days ago)Thanks so much! I am so torn with the furniture in our bedroom. I know that eventually the headboard and our dressers will be put in the guest room, but I am not ready to go out and buy (or make) a headboard and dressers for the bedroom quite yet! Thankfully, the big headboard still looks pretty darn good as-is! Would you believe I found it in the scratch and dent section of a furniture store for $40 back in 2007? Ha!!!

February 28, 2013 at 8:56 am (111 days ago)I’m thinking about using a color in the light blue family for my master bedroom. Rainwashed is a top contender.

February 28, 2013 at 11:43 am (110 days ago)looks lovely! The color turned out fabulous. Paint colors are sometimes really tough. We did 10 samples on our kitchen wall before we decided.
As for the corner, why not put a little chair and table there, maybe even a chaise. It’s the perfect little spot to lounge with a cup of coffee and a book.

February 28, 2013 at 12:52 pm (110 days ago)Thanks Lara! I might eventually put a chair in the corner…but knowing me that means it will get piled with stuff. I am horrible about that, haha! My biggest challenge right now is how to dress the windows…a regular curtain rod isn’t going to work with a corner window like that, so I have to figure out how to do something without it looking odd! I’ve never had corner windows before (and there is another set of them in the guest bedroom, go figure…)!

February 28, 2013 at 1:28 pm (110 days ago)Gorgeous color! Jotting that one down in my ‘someday-we-won’t-be-renting’ idea list.
I found this post while looking for ways to dress my bedroom’s bay window- might not be what you would like but at least could help with brainstorming!

February 28, 2013 at 3:22 pm (110 days ago)you know what would be even cuter in that corner is a little bench! You could even make it a little storage bench to do double duty. I just found this image on Lowes that shows a bench and some great window treatments. I think that this type of curtain would look great. You just need to get a corner curtain rod.

I loveeeeee the color! The bedroom looks fantastic
Also, the corner window is very neat
Have you thought about maybe putting two floor to ceiling book cases on each side (they don’t have to be too deep) and then framing it in and making a corner bench seat or to create a catchall for purses, coats, etc (does that make sense)?
