Mixing prints: polka dot and argyle
When it comes to mixing prints, sometimes I go for bold…and sometimes I opt for a more subtle approach.
If you’re mixing prints, the subtle approach is probably the safest bet. I know a lot of people are afraid of doing it out of fear of looking like a mismatched mess. I get it. I totally do. But – there is one rule of thumb I like to use that doesn’t steer me wrong…

Pairing a tiny print with a bold one is a great way to go. This tie neck blouse (from the Jason Wu for Target collection last year) has a tiny polka dot print on it. Mixing it with a bold print (like this large argyle) works! The patterns aren’t competing with one another, and the smaller print blends into the background, so to say. It’s all about balance.
And hey – who said Mary Janes have to be for little girls? I’m still very smitten with these pumps. Wearing a heel with a platform in the toe really helps to give you added height, without the aching pain in your feet from being on tip toe. These bad boys are 5 inches tall, but with the platform, they really only feel like a 3 inch heel or so. Winning!
Argyle cardigan: J. Crew // Tie neck blouse: Jason Wu for Target // Skinny jeans: Forever 21 // Mary Jane pumps: Vince Camuto, purchased at Nordstrom // Ditsy hobo: Urban Expressions

Although the components of my outfit are all from a previous season, here’s how I would snag a similar look from the stores today:
Argyle cardigan: JCP (on sale for $20!) // Owl that and More top: ModCloth // Levi’s 512 slimming skinny jeans: Kohl’s // Hobo tote: ASOS // Type Z Mary Jane pumps: Zappos

Have you mixed prints recently?
