From summer to fall: the shift dress

Today I’m continuing my “summer to fall” series with another example of how I would transition an outfit from summer style to one that is autumn-appropriate!

In case you missed the first one, click here to see it!

Anyway, today’s outfit is a little more dressed up. We’re starting with a great basic…the shift dress…in a bold color that definitely pops. I love that orange can be a wonderful option for the summer months, but can then take on the color of the changing leaves for the fall. For the summer, an eye-catching pair of heels would definitely be a must for me!

As the fall season approaches, I’d transition this classic dress with the addition of a blazer, a stunning black pump, and bit of animal print and warm tones. Totally work-appropriate and polished, if you ask me!

Do you have an item in your closet that transitions well from summer to fall?

OMG, I love a shift dress. Love. I think they are so classic and able to be dressed up or down. The majority of my clothing I actually purchase after thinking how I can work the piece into at least 2 seasons. Being a mom I have to keep my budget in check so I do alot of transition pieces. I never really though to add a blazer but seeing that I love blazers I think I am going to try this look.

That is a really smart way to go about it, I think! I have the added bonus of living in Florida – it is summery almost year-round, so I get a lot of wear out of the warm weather clothing! However, I am DYING to wear some sweaters and boots in the future…I might have to wait until November for that though…
